Roberto Alvarez in JB 2017
As part of our continual effort in promoting flute music, we are proud to bring you:
Roberto Alvarez - Flute & Piccolo concert and master class in JB, 2017
“Hot-Blooded Spanish Flair!”
“(His) consummate artistry... keeps the audience spell-bound”
Diversity of styles is a hallmark of Roberto's concerts and recitals. For him, the dividing lines between the different music genres should not be so well defined. As a matter of fact, Roberto feels just as comfortable performing classical, baroque or avant-garde music as well as celtic, jazz or rock.
Throughout his career he has received various international prizes, such as the Diploma of Honor in the Torneo Internazionale di Musica, Concurso Internacional de Música “Paper de Musica” de Capellades, the Angel Muñíz Toca prize and Ciutat de Manresa prize.
Chamber Music and orchestra playing are two of Roberto´s passions. He has performed with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, the Asturias Symphony Orchestra, the Oviedo Filarmonía, Bach-Akademie, the Algarve Orchestra, the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra and the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra with renowned conductors such as H. Rilling, K. Penderecki, J. López Cobos, N. Jarvi, E. Oue, K. Nagano, V. Ashkenazy, G. Rozhdestvensky.
He shows his interest not only in classical formations, but has also participated in several jazz and folk groups, always looking for new sonorities for the flute, and has performed the music of his region all over Europe.
Roberto's passion for performing new music has led him to record La Noche (Spanish for The Night). In this CD he shows his artistry playing flute, piccolo and alto flute, performing pieces especially written for him by composers from Spain and Singapore. La Noche was chosen classical album of the year in 2012 by the Singaporean publication The Straits Times.
In addition to his performances he is an enthusiastic flute teacher, having given master classes in Youth Orchestras and several conservatories and festivals. He currently teaches at the School of the Arts and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, in Singapore.
Roberto is the Principal Piccolo at Singapore Symphony Orchestra since July 2007.
